The chief minister of Assam officially opened the newly built Assam Bhawan in Bengaluru, a Rs 71 crore facility aimed at serving the Assamese community in the city.
Assam's chief minister presided over the inauguration of Assam Bhawan in Bengaluru on Thursday, marking the completion of a Rs 71 crore project. The four‑storey complex, located in the city's central business district, is intended to provide accommodation, cultural spaces and administrative offices for Assamese residents and visitors.
The building features a conference hall, a library with Assamese literature, and a cafeteria serving regional cuisine. Officials said the centre will also host government liaison offices to assist Assamese migrants with documentation and welfare matters.
State authorities highlighted that the Bhawan reflects Assam's growing diaspora in Karnataka and aims to strengthen cultural ties between the two states. The inauguration ceremony included a ribbon‑cutting, a brief address by the chief minister and a cultural performance showcasing Assamese folk music and dance.
Construction began two years ago under a joint initiative of the Assam government and private donors from the diaspora. The project was completed on schedule, and the facility is now open for public use.
