Arunachal Pradesh weightlifter Charu Pesi was set to compete in the World Championships but was unable to travel due to a stapled visa issue.
Arunachal Pradesh weightlifter Charu Pesi was selected to represent India at the World Weightlifting Championships scheduled to be held in 2024. The federation had confirmed her participation weeks before the event.
However, Pesi was unable to obtain a stapled visa in time, a requirement for Indian athletes traveling abroad for international competitions. The visa delay prevented her from boarding the flight to the host country.
The incident has highlighted the bureaucratic challenges faced by athletes from remote regions. Pesi’s coach expressed disappointment, noting that the athlete had trained intensively for the event.
Pesi will now have to wait for the next international meet to showcase her talent on the world stage.
