The Arunachal Pradesh administration has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Indo‑Tibetan Border Police to develop the state's dairy cooperative network.
The government of Arunachal Pradesh has formalised a partnership with the Indo‑Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) through a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening the state's dairy cooperative sector. The MoU outlines joint initiatives to improve milk production, enhance supply‑chain logistics, and provide technical training to cooperative members. Both parties intend to leverage ITBP's experience in remote‑area operations to extend dairy outreach to hill‑top villages that have limited market access. The agreement also calls for the establishment of cold‑storage facilities and the introduction of modern milking equipment to raise productivity and quality standards. Officials said the collaboration will help increase farmer incomes and contribute to food security in the region.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the state agriculture department and senior ITBP officers, who emphasized the strategic importance of dairy development in a largely agrarian economy. The MoU is expected to be implemented in phases, beginning with pilot projects in selected districts before scaling up across the state. Stakeholders anticipate that the partnership will create new employment opportunities and encourage youth participation in the dairy value chain.
While details of funding and timelines were not disclosed, the government has pledged to allocate resources for infrastructure upgrades and capacity‑building programmes. The initiative aligns with broader state efforts to diversify agricultural income sources and reduce dependence on traditional crops. The MoU reflects a growing trend of security forces collaborating with civilian agencies to foster rural development in India's northeastern states.
