The chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh has called for a structured plan to develop a yak‑based economy and the creation of a cooperative society for yak herders.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the need for a comprehensive roadmap to harness the potential of the state's yak resources. He emphasized that a structured plan could transform yak rearing into a sustainable livelihood option for remote mountain communities.

Khandu also proposed the formation of a cooperative society that would bring together yak herders, enabling collective marketing, better access to veterinary services, and shared infrastructure. The initiative aims to boost income for pastoral families while preserving traditional practices.

The proposal aligns with the state government's broader focus on promoting niche agricultural sectors and eco‑tourism in the Himalayan region. Officials are expected to draft the roadmap and set up the cooperative framework in the coming weeks.
