Chief Minister Pema Khandu called for calm following violent incidents linked to the Siang power project and announced temporary restrictions in the affected areas.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh addressed the recent outbreak of violence surrounding the Siang hydro‑electric project, urging all parties to maintain peace and refrain from further confrontation. The clashes, which erupted in villages near the project site, resulted in property damage and a few injuries, prompting the state administration to intervene.
In response, the CM announced the imposition of temporary restrictions, including a curfew and heightened police presence, across the affected districts to restore order and protect civilians. He emphasized that the project, aimed at boosting the state's power supply, must proceed within the framework of law and community consent.
Khandu appealed directly to local leaders and residents, asking them to resolve disputes through dialogue rather than violence. The administration has also ordered an investigation into the causes of the unrest and pledged support for any legitimate grievances raised by the community.
