Army helicopters use highway as helipad near Pakistan border

Indian Army helicopters touched down on a national highway that runs close to the Pakistan frontier, converting the stretch of road into a makeshift helipad for a brief period. The aircraft landed, refuelled and conducted checks before taking off again, all while remaining on the same roadway.

The maneuver was carried out as part of routine operational drills aimed at enhancing the force’s ability to operate in varied terrains and under constrained conditions. Using civilian infrastructure for military movements underscores the army’s focus on rapid deployment and logistical flexibility along sensitive border zones.

An army spokesperson said the exercise demonstrated the service’s readiness to respond swiftly to any contingency along the western front, while ensuring minimal disruption to civilian traffic. No injuries or accidents were reported, and normal traffic resumed shortly after the helicopters departed.

Security officials continue to monitor the border area closely, citing the need for heightened vigilance amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
