Appeal to District In-charge Minister to upgrade Jalahalli to a Municipality
Demand to recommend a new Raichur–Devadurga–Jalahalli–Vijayapura railway line
Raichur, Oct. 7: An appeal was submitted to District In-charge Minister Dr. Ajay Singh, urging the government to upgrade Jalahalli town in Devadurga taluk of Raichur district into a municipality and recommend to the Central Government the establishment of a new railway connection between Raichur–Devadurga–Jalahalli–Vijayapura.
Jalahalli town has a population of more than 25,000 and has 33 Gram Panchayat members. The town has a large weekly market along with significant trade and commercial activities. With the growing population and expansion of the town, the funds available to the Gram Panchayat are insufficient to provide the required basic infrastructure. Therefore, the appeal urged the government to upgrade Jalahalli into a municipality.
It was also pointed out that Jalahalli had earlier been a Town Panchayat. Considering the present requirements of the town and its population growth, the government was urged to take necessary steps to upgrade it into a municipality.
Demand for a New Railway Line
The appeal also urged the minister to recommend to the Union Railway Ministry the establishment of a new railway connection via Raichur–Devadurga–Jalahalli–Vijayapura.
If the proposed railway line is constructed, it would boost trade and commercial activities in the region and provide better facilities for transportation of agricultural produce, education for students and employment opportunities, the appeal stated.
The minister was further urged to recommend that the Central Government take necessary steps for a preliminary survey, feasibility study and preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed railway project.
