The Arunachal Pradesh Council and the All‑India Press Union of Working Journalists have condemned reported curbs on SUMP news coverage, calling them an attack on press freedom.

The Arunachal Pradesh Council (APC) and the All‑India Press Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) issued a joint statement on Thursday condemning what they described as recent restrictions on news reports produced by the SUMP agency. Both bodies said the measures undermine the free flow of information and threaten the constitutional right to a free press.

According to the statement, the reported curbs involve limiting the distribution of SUMP bulletins in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh, though the exact nature of the restrictions was not disclosed. The APC and APUWJ urged the state administration to withdraw the constraints immediately and to ensure that all media outlets can operate without undue interference.

The two organisations also called on other journalist associations and civil‑society groups to rally behind the cause of press freedom in the region. They warned that any erosion of media rights could set a dangerous precedent for other states.

No official response from the state government has been recorded at the time of publication.
