Following a week of intense rainfall, reservoirs across Andhra Pradesh now hold 505.76 thousand million cubic feet of water, according to the state's water resources department.

Heavy rains that began last week have swollen the major reservoirs in Andhra Pradesh, bringing the total storage to 505.76 thousand million cubic feet (TMC). The water resources department reported that the figure represents a significant increase from the previous month’s levels.

The surge in water levels is expected to benefit the state’s extensive irrigation network, providing farmers with a much-needed boost for the upcoming planting season. It also raises the potential for increased hydroelectric generation at the region’s power plants.

While the higher reservoir levels are generally positive for water security, officials warned that the continued rainfall could pose flood risks in low-lying areas. The department has urged local authorities to monitor river flows closely and to prepare contingency plans.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and will issue advisories as necessary,” said a spokesperson from the water resources department. The department also noted that the current storage is within safe limits for the major dams in the state.
