Education minister Lingamaneni Ramesh has formally approached the Union government asking for permission to establish 13 new Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and two All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh’s education minister Lingamaneni Ramesh wrote to the Union Ministry of Education and Health, requesting the central government's nod to set up 13 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across the state. The proposal also includes the establishment of two All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to expand advanced medical education and services.
Ramesh highlighted the growing demand for quality residential schools and tertiary medical facilities in the state, citing gaps in current infrastructure. He argued that the new JNVs would provide free, high‑standard education to talented rural students, while the AIIMS would address the shortage of specialist doctors and reduce patient outflow to other states.
The minister said the projects are part of the state’s broader plan to boost human capital and attract central funding. He awaits a response from the Centre, noting that timely approval could fast‑track construction and recruitment processes.
If approved, the new institutions are expected to be operational within the next few years, potentially benefiting thousands of students and patients in Andhra Pradesh.
