The Indian Meteorological Department warned that the Andhra Pradesh coastline is on alert for a second cyclone following the recent passage of Cyclone Arnab.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an advisory on Tuesday indicating that the eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh is bracing for a second cyclonic system, just days after Cyclone Arnab made landfall in the state. Meteorologists said the new disturbance is developing over the Bay of Bengal and could intensify into a cyclonic storm within 48 hours, prompting the agency to raise the alert level for coastal districts.
State authorities have already mobilised disaster response teams, pre‑positioned relief supplies, and instructed fishermen to remain ashore until further notice. The coastal districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam are under heightened vigilance, with evacuation plans reviewed and shelters readied.
IMD officials cautioned that heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges could affect low‑lying areas, potentially disrupting agriculture and infrastructure. Residents have been advised to stay informed through official bulletins and to follow any evacuation orders promptly.
The department will continue to monitor the system closely and issue updates every six hours, while the National Disaster Management Authority stands ready to coordinate any large‑scale response if the cyclone makes landfall.
