The central government announced an extension for Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya to meet the deadlines of the Special Incentive Regime (SIR).

New Delhi said that the two states will receive additional time to comply with the Special Incentive Regime, commonly abbreviated as SIR. The extension aims to address implementation challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya without altering the overall objectives of the scheme. Officials indicated that the revised timeline will be communicated to the state administrations shortly, allowing them to align their processes with the central guidelines.

The SIR framework, introduced earlier this year, is intended to provide targeted incentives to boost investment and development in participating regions. By granting a longer window, the government hopes the states can complete required documentation and set up necessary mechanisms.

Stakeholders in both states have welcomed the move, noting that the extra period will help avoid rushed compliance and ensure smoother execution of the programme's provisions.
