The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a ₹300 crore fund to improve road connectivity for the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu pilgrimage, aiming to ease traffic and enhance pilgrim safety.
The state cabinet of Andhra Pradesh has cleared a budget of ₹300 crore to upgrade and expand road networks that lead to the Godavari River, where the quinquennial Pushkaralu festival will be held. The allocation is intended to widen existing highways, resurface deteriorated stretches and install better signage to manage the expected surge of pilgrims.
Officials said the funds will be disbursed to the state's road and bridges department, which will prioritize key routes in districts such as East and West Godavari. Work is slated to begin within weeks of the approval, with completion targeted before the festival commences.
The Godavari Pushkaralu attracts millions of devotees who bathe in the river as part of a religious rite. By improving road access, the government hopes to reduce congestion, enhance safety and provide a smoother travel experience for visitors from across the country.
