Local religious organisations in Amritsar have asked that the honorarium for Akhand Path reciters be lifted from ₹1,200 to ₹1,600 per session.
Amritsar's religious community has formally requested a revision of the standard remuneration paid to volunteers who conduct Akhand Path ceremonies. The current customary amount of ₹1,200 per recitation is said to be insufficient to cover the time and effort involved. Representatives of several gurdwaras and community groups submitted a joint petition to local authorities, proposing a new rate of ₹1,600 per session. They argue that the increase will help sustain participation and maintain the quality of the uninterrupted scripture reading, which is a central practice in Sikh worship. The petition is awaiting a response from municipal officials, who have not yet commented on the proposed change.
