Police in Amritsar arrested a suspect and recovered an AK‑47 rifle, live ammunition and two hand grenades, uncovering links to foreign smugglers.
Amritsar police announced the arrest of a suspect suspected of planning a terrorist act just days before major festive celebrations in the city. The operation, carried out by a special anti‑terror unit, resulted in the seizure of a fully functional AK‑47 rifle, its magazine, live cartridges and two hand‑grenades from the accused's possession.
Investigators recovered the weapons in a thorough search of the suspect's belongings, confirming that the firearms were ready for immediate use. The AK‑47 and grenades were handed over to the forensic lab for detailed examination and evidence cataloguing.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the arrested individual had been in contact with foreign smugglers, suggesting an external supply chain for the illicit arms. Authorities are now probing the network to determine the extent of cross‑border involvement.
Senior police officials described the bust as a significant success in preventing potential violence during the upcoming celebrations, emphasizing the vigilance of law‑enforcement agencies in the lead‑up to the festive season.
