Punjab’s Amritsar rural police detained 16 suspects linked to weapons, explosives and heroin trafficking, recovering two hand grenades and 34 kg of the drug.
Amritsar’s rural police launched a coordinated operation against several illegal networks and arrested sixteen individuals suspected of involvement in arms smuggling, explosive handling and narcotics trafficking. The arrests were made after intelligence inputs pointed to the presence of a multi‑layered criminal cell operating in the outskirts of the city.
During the raids, officers recovered two hand‑grenades and a substantial haul of heroin weighing approximately thirty‑four kilograms. The seized narcotics are expected to be forwarded to the state’s forensic laboratory for further analysis and legal proceedings.
Investigators also linked the suspects to three recent firing incidents reported in nearby villages, which have now been resolved as part of the same crackdown. Police spokesperson said the operation underscores the department’s commitment to dismantling organized crime and curbing the flow of illegal weapons and drugs in Punjab.
The detained persons are being interrogated, and formal charges under the Arms Act, the Explosives Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are likely to be filed in the coming days.
