Runway operations at Amritsar Airport were suspended after a suspicious drone was spotted in the air, leading to the diversion of three flights.
Earlier today, security personnel at Amritsar Airport detected a drone hovering over the airspace above the runway. The aircraft’s presence triggered an immediate shutdown of all runway operations to ensure passenger safety. In response, air traffic control diverted three scheduled flights to alternate airports.
No injuries or damage were reported. Airport officials confirmed that the drone was not identified as belonging to any registered operator. The Punjab Police and the Indian Air Force have been notified and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
The airport has urged passengers to remain calm and to follow instructions from airport staff. Flights that were diverted are expected to resume normal operations once the investigation is complete.
