Amit Shah declares Gujarat’s goal to become a national sports powerhouse

Home Minister Amit Shah used a recent gathering of international archers to outline the state government's vision of turning Gujarat into a sports powerhouse. He said the government will invest in world‑class facilities, coaching academies and talent‑identification schemes to attract athletes from across the country.

Shah highlighted that Gujarat already hosts several national‑level tournaments and will leverage its strategic location and industrial base to develop sports tourism. He urged private partners and corporate sponsors to join the effort, promising incentives and streamlined approvals.

The remarks came as 19 nations participated in the World Archery competition held in the state, underscoring Gujarat's growing profile on the global sporting map. Officials said the event will serve as a catalyst for future bids to host larger international championships.

State officials assured that the upcoming budget will allocate dedicated funds for stadium upgrades, grassroots programs in schools and the creation of a sports science hub. The initiative aims to boost youth participation and generate employment in related sectors.

Shah concluded by urging the public to support the drive, stating that a strong sports ecosystem will enhance Gujarat’s reputation and contribute to India's overall performance in global competitions.
