BJP leader Amit Shah alleged that the Congress is aiding Maoist groups in Chhattisgarh and urged the opposition to engage in a debate on the Special Investigation Report (SIR).

New Delhi – In a recent statement from Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah charged the Indian National Congress with providing support to Maoist insurgents in the state. Shah said the allegation is based on intelligence inputs and called for a transparent discussion on the Special Investigation Report (SIR) that examines the issue.

He challenged opposition leaders to debate the findings of the SIR in the legislative assembly, asserting that such a dialogue is essential for national security and the welfare of the people of Chhattisgarh. Shah warned that any tacit or overt assistance to Maoist groups undermines democratic institutions.

The Congress party has not yet responded to the accusations, but political analysts note that the claim could intensify the already fraught relationship between the two parties ahead of upcoming state elections. The debate on the SIR is expected to be tabled in the next assembly session.

Security officials reiterated that the fight against Maoist extremism remains a priority for the central government, and they urged all political stakeholders to cooperate in curbing insurgent activities.

The statement comes as the BJP seeks to consolidate its narrative on internal security ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle in the region.
