Allegations of Substandard Food Served to Passengers: Vishwanath Ballidav Urges Inspection of Devadurga Canteen

Need 24 News

Devadurga, October 27: Despite the Food Safety Department conducting regular inspections and imposing fines on hotels across the state following complaints about poor food quality at three-star, five-star, and other hotels at district and taluk levels, some hotel owners continue to neglect food safety standards. The canteen operating at the K K R T C bus stand in Devadurga has now come under scrutiny over allegations concerning food quality and hygiene.

Although the department has issued guidelines requiring hotels to maintain cleanliness and provide quality food to customers, concerns remain regarding compliance. Regulations also prohibit the improper reuse of cooking oil and emphasize the need to protect customers' health. However, allegations have emerged that some hotel operators are failing to give sufficient importance to these requirements.

Previously, reports had surfaced about reputed hotels in Bengaluru allegedly storing and using meat in a spoiled condition, raising concerns about food safety and hygiene in the hotel industry.

Demand for Immediate Inspection

Hundreds of passengers visit the K K R T C bus stand every day. People travelling to distant destinations often depend on the canteen for their meals. Under these circumstances, maintaining food quality and cleanliness is essential. Substandard food can potentially have adverse effects on public health.

Therefore, food safety officials have been urged to visit the premises immediately, inspect the canteen, and take appropriate legal action if any violations are found. Public health must not be compromised under any circumstances.

Vishwanath Ballidav, District President of Bhim Army, urged the authorities to take the matter seriously and ensure that passengers are provided with safe and hygienic food.

Concerns Over Reuse of Cooking Oil and Hygiene

Allegations have also emerged that some hotels in Devadurga are repeatedly reusing cooking oil, potentially violating food safety regulations. Food safety officials have previously conducted raids and taken action against several roadside food vendors operating stalls on footpaths. However, concerns persist that cleanliness standards in some larger hotels remain inadequate.

According to the complaints, the food served at the hotel located inside the K K R T C bus stand in Devadurga, including idli-sambar, dosa, upma, vada, and lunch meals, is allegedly of poor quality.

Another concern raised is the alleged use of domestic LPG cylinders in the hotel since its establishment. Authorities have been urged to inspect the food safety standards, kitchen hygiene, and use of LPG cylinders to determine whether the applicable regulations are being followed.

Public Health Must Be a Priority

Passengers, students, women, and elderly people regularly visit the bus stand and depend on nearby food establishments. Providing safe, hygienic, and good-quality food at such public places is the responsibility of the hotel management.

The concerned authorities have also been urged to investigate the reported use of domestic LPG cylinders, clarify whether their use complies with the applicable regulations, and take appropriate legal action if violations are confirmed.

Ensuring food safety, maintaining hygiene, and protecting public health must remain a priority. Authorities are expected to respond promptly to these concerns and take necessary measures to safeguard passengers and other customers.
