Indian Railways suspended all services to New Delhi and NZM stations on 10 October, citing severe traffic congestion.
Indian Railways announced that every train scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and NZM (New Delhi‑Zonal Maintenance) stations on 10 October was cancelled because of unusually heavy road traffic around the capital. The decision, issued early on the day, was taken to avoid further gridlock and ensure passenger safety.
The cancellation affected both long‑distance and suburban services, leaving thousands of commuters to seek alternative transport. Railway authorities advised passengers to use buses, metro services or private vehicles where possible, and to monitor official channels for updates on rescheduling.
Railway officials indicated that the traffic situation, exacerbated by ongoing construction and a city‑wide rally, made it impractical to manage train arrivals safely. They assured the public that normal operations would resume once the congestion eases, and that compensation procedures would be communicated in due course.
