Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav accused Delhi Police of doing nothing but filing FIRs, referring to the ongoing Rahul Gandhi investigation.
Akhilesh Yadav, a senior Samajwadi Party leader, criticised Delhi Police on Tuesday, saying their sole activity appears to be filing FIRs. He made the remark in reference to the investigation surrounding former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s alleged breach of the Representation of Peoples Act.
Speaking at a press conference in Delhi, Yadav alleged that the police are practising selective enforcement and political bias, adding that no substantive action has been taken beyond registering complaints.
The Rahul Gandhi case stems from his parliamentary remarks that were deemed defamatory, and it has attracted scrutiny from both the police and the Enforcement Directorate. Yadav urged the central government to ensure an impartial probe and called for a review of police functioning.
A Delhi Police spokesperson declined to comment on Yadav’s statements, stating that the department follows due process.
