The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has launched a four‑year research project involving 200 families to investigate the underlying factors of autoimmune diseases.

AIIMS announced a new longitudinal research programme aimed at deciphering the causes of autoimmune disorders. The study will enrol 200 families from diverse backgrounds and follow them for a period of four years.

Participants will undergo regular clinical examinations, genetic screening and environmental assessments. By collecting this comprehensive data set, researchers intend to spot common patterns, triggers and hereditary links that may predispose individuals to autoimmune conditions.

The institute hopes that insights gained from the project will enable earlier diagnosis, more targeted therapies and inform national health strategies for managing chronic immune‑related diseases.

The initiative underscores AIIMS's commitment to advancing medical science in India and addressing the growing burden of autoimmune illnesses across the population.
