The New Delhi Municipal Council has introduced an artificial‑intelligence literacy curriculum in its city schools to familiarize students with AI concepts and applications.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has rolled out an artificial‑intelligence (AI) literacy programme across its network of schools in the capital. The initiative aims to equip students with a foundational understanding of AI, its uses and ethical considerations, as part of the broader effort to modernise school curricula.
Under the scheme, teachers will receive specialised training and classroom resources designed to introduce AI concepts in an age‑appropriate manner. Interactive sessions, hands‑on projects and digital tools will be used to demonstrate how AI operates in everyday life, from voice assistants to recommendation systems.
The programme is scheduled to commence this academic year and will initially cover primary and middle‑grade classes, with plans to expand to higher grades based on feedback. NDMC officials said the move reflects the growing importance of technology education in preparing Delhi's youth for future job markets.
Stakeholders, including parents and education experts, have welcomed the step, noting that early exposure to AI can foster critical thinking and digital literacy. The council will monitor the rollout and share outcomes with other municipal bodies.
This AI literacy drive aligns with national initiatives promoting STEM education and aims to position Delhi's school system at the forefront of emerging‑technology learning.
