Researchers from Karnataka's Agricultural University have created a digital soil map that analyses soil quality across districts, helping farmers apply the right fertilizer.

Scientists from the state’s Agricultural University have prepared a digital Soil Map that provides nutrient‑based recommendations for fertilizer application.

The team analysed soil samples from several districts of Karnataka, assessing key parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and organic matter to determine the specific nutrient profile of each area.

Based on this analysis, the interactive map indicates the exact type and quantity of fertilizer each farmer should use for his or her plot, aiming to improve crop yields while reducing excess chemical use.

The university plans to update the map regularly as new data become available, encouraging wider adoption of precision farming practices across the state.
