The Agniveer recruitment rally kicked off in Agartala, Tripura, with registration numbers jumping 92% since its launch, officials said.
The Ministry of Defence began the Agniveer recruitment drive in Agartala on Monday, setting up a large‑scale rally to attract young aspirants from Tripura and neighboring states. Officials from the defence recruitment cell reported that the initial response has been robust, with registration figures climbing 92% within the first 24 hours.
The rally, organized under the newly announced Agniveer scheme, offers a three‑year short‑service commission in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, followed by a pension and the option to transition to regular service. Interested candidates are required to register online and submit supporting documents at the on‑site verification counters.
State authorities have deployed additional staff to manage the surge, ensuring smooth verification and counseling for applicants. The defence ministry expects the rally to continue for the next two weeks, aiming to fill a substantial quota of vacancies earmarked for the North‑East region.
Security arrangements were tightened around the venue, with police and paramilitary units overseeing crowd control. The event also featured briefings by senior officers outlining the benefits and obligations of the Agniveer contract.
The recruitment drive is part of a broader effort to enhance representation from the North‑East in the armed forces, aligning with the government's policy to provide more opportunities for youth in the region.
