The Indian government has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for an additional six months in the disturbed areas of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) will remain in force for another six months in the disturbed areas of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
AFSPA grants the Indian armed forces special powers to maintain public order in areas declared as disturbed. The act has been in effect in these northeastern states for several decades.
The extension applies to the same zones that were covered under the act prior to the announcement. The government said it will reassess the situation after the six‑month period.
This decision follows a series of security concerns in the region, and the authorities have stated that the extension is aimed at ensuring stability and protecting civilians.
