Actor Jisshu Sengupta Highlights Bengal Theatre Crisis

Jisshu Sengupta, a prominent Bengali actor, recently spoke out about the deteriorating condition of theatre in West Bengal. He highlighted issues such as dwindling audiences, lack of funding, and the scarcity of rehearsal spaces.
The actor emphasized that theatre, once a vibrant cultural medium in the state, now struggles to survive amid competition from digital entertainment. He called on government bodies, private sponsors, and the community to support local productions and preserve the art form.
Sengupta's remarks come as several regional theatres have closed or are operating at reduced capacity. He urged policymakers to consider measures like subsidies, tax incentives, and infrastructure development to revive the sector.
