Abu Dhabi Gen Z Embraces Film Photography Trend

Abu Dhabi’s younger generation is showing a growing fascination with film photography, a shift that contrasts with the region’s high digital adoption. The trend reflects a desire among Gen Z to experience the tactile and nostalgic aspects of analog cameras, despite the convenience of smartphones and digital lenses. Local hobbyists and emerging photographers are gathering at community events and social media platforms to share their work and tips, indicating a budding subculture.

The resurgence is being reported by Gulf News, which highlights how the analog medium offers a slower, more deliberate creative process. Participants cite the unique grain, colour rendition, and the anticipation of waiting for developed prints as key attractions. Small independent labs in the city have reported a rise in film processing orders, catering to this renewed interest.

While still a niche activity, the movement points to a broader global revival of vintage technologies among youth, blending modern sensibilities with retro aesthetics. Observers suggest that this could influence local art scenes and educational workshops focused on photography.
