Raichur, October 30: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (A I M I M) Raichur City President Shabbir Ahmed Houdadi has urged the government to immediately fill the vacant posts of Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) and police constables in Raichur district. He also demanded that the shortage of officers and staff at the Raichur City Corporation be addressed and job security be provided to employees who have been working on a contractual basis for several years.
In a press statement, he stated that the increasing population and rising crime cases in the district have created a need for additional police personnel. At present, 24 PSI posts and 127 police constable posts are vacant in the district, he said.
Due to the shortage of staff, the police personnel currently on duty are facing an increased workload. This is affecting night patrolling, the investigation of criminal cases and the maintenance of law and order. Therefore, he urged the government to fill the vacant posts at the earliest.
He also pointed out that the Raichur City Corporation is facing a shortage of officers and staff required to provide essential civic amenities to the public.
According to the press statement, the Grade A category has a shortage of 11 officers, while two officers are working on deputation and one person is employed on a contractual basis. In the Grade B category, 10 officer posts are vacant, while three officers are working on deputation.
In the Grade C category, 136 employees are working on a contractual basis, five employees are on deputation, and eight posts remain vacant. In the Grade D category, 383 employees and pourakarmikas (civic sanitation workers) are working on a contractual basis, while 71 posts remain vacant, he stated.
Overall, 520 officers, employees and civic sanitation workers are reportedly working on a contractual basis. Employees who have served for several years should not be forced to live under constant uncertainty about their employment. The government must consider their job security, dignified living conditions and the financial stability of their families, he appealed.
Development should not be limited to the construction of roads and buildings. Protecting the interests and welfare of officers, employees and civic sanitation workers who serve the public is also an important part of development, he emphasized.
In this regard, he urged the Government of Karnataka, the Urban Development Department, the Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Home Department to take the issue seriously, fill the vacant posts in the police department and address the shortage of staff at the City Corporation. He also requested the authorities to examine the possibilities of regularizing the services of contractual employees in accordance with applicable rules.
On this occasion, A I M I M City General Secretary Shaibaz Khan, Joint City Secretaries Tanveer Ahmed Khan and Santosh Suryavanshi, Executive Member Erannesh Bovi, Women's Joint Secretary Parveen Saleem Shaikh, Ward No. 28 Secretary Rahman, Ward No. 29 President Mohammed Aleem and other party leaders were present.
