A seventh‑grade pupil, Nidhi, was appointed for a day as District Magistrate in Delhi, where she presided over a public hearing and recorded citizens’ grievances.

Delhi’s education department organised a one‑day ‘District Magistrate for a Day’ programme, selecting Nidhi, a class‑seven student, to experience the role of a DM. During the event she chaired a public hearing attended by local residents, listening to a range of complaints ranging from municipal services to school facilities. Nidhi documented the issues and presented a summary to senior officials, highlighting the importance of youth perspective in governance. The initiative aims to sensitize young citizens about administrative processes and encourage civic engagement at an early age.

Officials said the exercise will be replicated in other districts to bridge the gap between administration and the community. Nidhi’s participation received positive feedback from both the public and the bureaucracy, underscoring the potential of such experiential learning programmes.
