A group of 45 chess competitors arrived in Kohima to prepare for the forthcoming regional tournament.
Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, saw the arrival of forty‑five chess players earlier this week as they assembled for the upcoming regional championship. The participants, representing various districts and clubs, gathered at the designated venue to register, undergo briefings and familiarize themselves with the competition schedule.
Organisers of the championship have highlighted the event as a key platform for emerging talent in the northeastern region, offering players a chance to earn rating points and qualify for national-level contests. The tournament, slated to commence later this month, will feature multiple categories across age groups, adhering to the standards set by the All India Chess Federation.
Local authorities and the Nagaland Chess Association have coordinated logistics, ensuring adequate facilities and accommodation for the competitors. The gathering is expected to boost interest in chess among the youth of Nagaland and contribute to the sport’s growing popularity in the state.
