Border Security Force and Crime Investigation teams seized 44 kg of heroin and ice drug hidden in fields near Gajniwala, Punjab, allegedly smuggled from Pakistan via the Satluj River.
Punjab police reported that a large narcotics shipment was intercepted in the fields of Gajniwala village. The haul, comprising roughly 44 kilograms of heroin and an unspecified quantity of ice (crystal meth), had been concealed underground.
According to officials, the drugs entered India from Pakistan, transported across the border and then moved along the Satluj River before being hidden in the agricultural land. The operation was carried out after a confidential tip led Border Security Force (BSF) and the Crime Investigation (CI) team to the site.
The joint task force recovered the entire consignment without any reported casualties. Seizure of such a sizeable quantity underscores the ongoing challenge of cross‑border drug trafficking in the region and is expected to trigger further investigations into the smuggling network.
Law enforcement agencies have not disclosed the identities of the suspects involved, but they indicated that legal proceedings will follow under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
