Police in Assam's Dhubri district have arrested 36 Bangladeshi nationals who crossed the border from Meghalaya and were caught at the Dhubri ferry ghat.

Police officials in Dhubri, Assam, reported that a group of 36 Bangladeshi nationals was intercepted at the Dhubri ferry ghat after entering the state illegally from the neighboring state of Meghalaya. The detainees were taken into custody following a routine patrol at the riverine crossing point.

According to the authorities, the individuals had crossed the international border without valid documentation and used the ferry route to move into Assam. The operation highlights the porous nature of certain stretches of the India‑Bangladesh frontier, especially in the northeastern region where rivers serve as natural transit corridors.

The Assam police have forwarded the case to the district magistrate for further legal action, which may include deportation or prosecution under the Foreigners Act. Officials reiterated that vigilance will continue along vulnerable border points to curb unauthorized entry and related security concerns.
