Police in Varanasi uncovered 31 kg of cannabis concealed in animal feed, valued at around ₹15 lakh, and arrested a suspect linked to the haul.
Police officials in Varanasi announced the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics hidden inside animal feed during a routine inspection. The operation, carried out by the city’s narcotics control unit, led to the discovery of 31 kilograms of cannabis, which authorities estimate to be worth roughly ₹15 lakh.
Investigators said the drug was carefully packed within bags of fodder, a tactic meant to evade detection while transporting the contraband to its intended destination. Preliminary inquiries suggest the stock was being prepared for distribution during an upcoming local festival, though the exact network remains under probe.
A male suspect, identified as the individual responsible for arranging the shipment, was taken into custody at the scene. He is currently being interrogated, and the seized cannabis has been forwarded to the forensic laboratory for further analysis.
The Varanasi police have warned that any attempts to smuggle narcotics under the guise of agricultural supplies will be met with strict legal action, and the case will be presented before the district court in the coming days.
