A 28‑year‑old man died after drowning in deep waters of the Shahdol river while fishing, echoing a past family loss at the same spot.

Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh – A 28‑year‑old resident identified as Sandeep lost his life when he slipped into the deep currents of the Shahdol river during a routine fishing outing. Local witnesses reported that the young man entered the water near a popular fishing ghats and was unable to resurface.

Preliminary observations by the district police suggest that a sudden epileptic seizure may have caused him to lose control, leading to the fatal submersion. Authorities have opened a case of accidental death and are awaiting a medical report to confirm the exact cause.

The tragedy has reopened old wounds for Sandeep's family. His elder father had previously drowned at the same ghats, and a close relative – his father's aunt – also died in a dam‑related accident years ago. The repeated loss at the same water bodies has left the relatives in deep mourning.

Police and community members have gathered at the site to perform last rites and to console the bereaved family. The incident underscores the risks associated with fishing in fast‑moving river sections, especially for individuals with known health vulnerabilities.
