A 25‑foot tall Ravana statue being hoisted for Dussehra in Madhya Pradesh broke at both legs and collapsed immediately.
A massive 25‑foot Ravana effigy prepared for Dussehra celebrations in Madhya Pradesh collapsed moments after it was raised. Officials said the structure's two legs gave way, causing the entire figure to fall to the ground.
The incident occurred while volunteers were attempting to hoist the statue onto a platform, a customary part of the festival's preparations. No injuries were reported, and the crowd was quickly cleared from the area.
Local authorities have launched a preliminary inquiry to determine whether the collapse resulted from faulty construction, inadequate support, or handling errors. The Dussehra committee has pledged to replace the effigy and ensure safety measures for the upcoming festivities.
Organisers expressed disappointment but affirmed that the main celebrations will proceed as scheduled, with a new Ravana figure expected to be installed before the main procession.
