A batch of 22 youths has started the DREAM YOUNG vocational training program in Meghalaya, aiming to boost employability through skill development.
Twenty-two young people have joined the DREAM YOUNG vocational training initiative in Meghalaya, marking the latest effort to provide market‑relevant skills to the state’s youth. The program, launched by a local development agency, focuses on practical trades such as carpentry, hospitality, and digital services, with classroom sessions complemented by on‑the‑job apprenticeships.
Organisers said the curriculum is designed in consultation with regional employers to ensure that participants acquire competencies that match current job market demands. Training modules run for three months, after which trainees receive certification that can be presented to potential employers.
State officials highlighted that such skill‑building schemes are critical for reducing unemployment among young adults and for attracting investment to the region. They expect the first cohort to secure placement opportunities within weeks of completing the course, thereby contributing to Meghalaya’s broader economic development goals.
