Seventeen‑year‑old Janmoni Konwar’s house was swept away by the recent floods that have inundated large parts of Assam.
The monsoon‑driven floods that have battered Assam this week have forced thousands of residents to flee their homes, and among them is 17‑year‑old student Janmoni Konwar. According to local officials, the rising waters from the Brahmaputra and its tributaries completely washed away the modest house where Janmoni lives with her family. The destruction left her family without shelter and with limited access to essential supplies.
Relief teams from the state disaster management authority have set up temporary camps in nearby villages, providing food, blankets and medical aid to displaced families, including Janmoni’s. Authorities are assessing the damage and coordinating with NGOs to expedite the delivery of clean water and sanitation facilities.
The floods, which have affected several districts across Assam, are expected to persist as heavy rainfall continues. Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant, follow evacuation orders and seek assistance from the nearest relief centers.
