Manipur police detained 13 individuals suspected of sharing child sexual abuse material on the messaging app Telegram.
Manipur police announced that they have arrested 13 individuals suspected of distributing child sexual abuse material through the messaging platform Telegram. The arrests were made as part of a coordinated operation after intelligence inputs indicated the illegal sharing of explicit content involving minors.
According to officials, the suspects were found to be part of a network that used Telegram channels and private chats to circulate the material across state lines. Investigators seized several electronic devices and recovered digital evidence that is being examined by cyber‑crime experts.
The detainees are likely to be charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act, which criminalise the creation, possession and transmission of child pornography. They will appear before a local court in the coming days for further legal proceedings.
Authorities said the operation underscores the state's commitment to combat online child exploitation and urged the public to report any similar activity to the cyber cell.
