A first convoy of 106 tourists from Maharashtra stranded by severe floods in Nepal has been brought back to India, with another group of 84 expected to cross the border today.
The ongoing floods in Nepal have left dozens of Indian tourists stranded in the Himalayan nation. After coordinated rescue efforts by Nepali authorities and Indian officials, the first batch of 106 travelers from Maharashtra was escorted across the border into India on Saturday.
The rescued tourists, who were on a pilgrimage tour when the deluge hit, were provided with emergency medical aid and basic supplies before being handed over to Indian border security. They are now being taken to a temporary shelter in the nearby Indian town of Raxaul, where local officials are arranging onward transport to their home state.
A second convoy carrying 84 more Maharashtra tourists is scheduled to depart from the Nepalese side later today, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry has urged families to remain patient as authorities continue to monitor the flood situation and ensure safe passage for all stranded nationals.
Both Nepal and India have pledged further assistance to flood‑affected regions, emphasizing cross‑border cooperation in disaster response.
